The Fit Note

Today the Department for Work and Pensions have replaced the standard medical note, aka the 'sick note' with a new form called a 'fit note'.

The replacement has been made with regard to research that shows that work is beneficial for general health and recovery from illness, and allows GPs to aid the convalescent back to work to avoid long-term absence. Up until now, a sick note would state whether or not a person should refrain from work, but the fit note may now state that they 'may be fit enough', and give steps for employers to provide helpful conditions.
