City Region Employer Coalition (CREC)

Welcome to the City Region Employer Coalition.

The City Region Employer Coalition is a network of over 200 employers in the Leeds City Region who meet regularly as subgroups to discuss recruitment and retention issues within their sector (Care and Contact Centre) or on themes (Diversity and Flexible Working).

Employer Coalitions are the only local employer groups that are committed solely to open up jobs and skills opportunities for people disadvantaged in the labour market. They provide business input into the publicly-funded employment and skills system - helping Government to mould their initiatives to meet business needs and, in turn, employers to access public funding for their workforce needs.

City Region Employer Coalition is also the operational employment and skills divison of the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce. This will strengthen its own capacity and resource and provide an important extra dimension to the Chamber’s work for its 3000 members and their 5000,000 employees.

Request for Input into Red Tape Consultation

The Coalition Government is currently undergoing a huge drive to identify and cut unnecessary red tape that impact on business.

In the past, lobby groups have been criticised for complaining about the burden of red tape, without providing specific examples of where this burden could be reduced. The Chamber needs these specific examples in order to push for a better trading environment.

Free 'Shift Line' Manager's Guide to Supporting People with Mental Health Issues in the Workplace

Occupational Health Helpline for Small Businesses

Taking action on a recent health review, the government has launched a free helpline advising small business employers on how to help employees who are suffering ill health. This will be of use to employers who want to know how to support sick employees, and in some cases keep them working whilst they are experiencing ill health, as well as promote a supportive attitude to ill-health in the workplace. Any employers with questions about the new fit note will find answers through this resource.

The Fit Note

Today the Department for Work and Pensions have replaced the standard medical note, aka the 'sick note' with a new form called a 'fit note'.

The replacement has been made with regard to research that shows that work is beneficial for general health and recovery from illness, and allows GPs to aid the convalescent back to work to avoid long-term absence. Up until now, a sick note would state whether or not a person should refrain from work, but the fit note may now state that they 'may be fit enough', and give steps for employers to provide helpful conditions.
